Show Your Support
How can you show your support for New Roots Charter School and for innovative, learner-centered sustainability education in Tompkins County? Here are some ways:
- Write a letter in support, and send it to the editors of your local newspapers, to your friends, and to us to post on our website. To send a letter to the Ithaca Journal, go to http://www.theithacajournal.com/section/CUSTOMERSERVICE03 To send a letter to the Times, go to www.ithacatimes.com and scroll to the bottom of the page, "send us your letters".
- Add your name to a rapidly-growing list of supporters that will also be posted on this website! Use the "send us a message" button at the top of the page. Please include the statement, "Please add my name to the list of people who endorse New Roots as a good investment for our community to make at this time" and give us your name as you'd like it to appear on the list.
- Write a letter to State Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton urging her to withdraw her bill that would suspend the establishment of all new charter schools. While the bill will not pass because it is unconstitutional--because it would require the state to violate existing contracts with schools like New Roots, which are already approved--Assemblywoman Lifton needs to know that many of her constituents do not approve of her actions. For more information, go to In The News.
- Wear a "Grow New Roots in Ithaca" button. Buttons are available at the New Roots office in the Women's Community Building of downtown Ithaca.
- Spread the word! If you know teens entering 9th and 10th grade next school year, make sure they have the information they need to make an informed choice about where to go to high school.
